2010 V8 Supercars Champion James Courtney returns for his sixth year with the Holden Racing Team and is set on putting a horror 2015 behind him. After kick-starting the year by taking out back-to-back Clipsal 500s, followed by a string of podiums in the subsequent rounds, Courtney’s season was interrupted by a freak incident at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Courtney’s career has taken him around the world, but started in 1994 when he became the Australian National Kart Championship runner-up. At the age of 14, Courtney moved overseas to become a professional kart racer and picked up two World Championships in the process. Climbing the ranks, he progressed to Formula Ford in 1999 and achieved major success in 2000 with the factory Van Diemen team, winning both the British and European titles. Graduating to British F3 the next year, Courtney made international headlines when he was announced as test driver of the Jaguar Racing F1 team.
